If we go through ancient scriptures of astrology like BPHS, we come through many concepts that completely fail in modern life. One such concept is Karako Bhava Nasha which means when a karak planet sits in its own karak house, it destroys these significations.

As per renowned researcher and astrologer Sheshadri Iyer, this dictum only works when the karak planet is sitting in the lagna of the karak divisional chart. For example, Jupiter is karak of 5th house, hence Jupiter sitting in lagna of D7 while it sits in 5th in D1 can destroy the significations of 5th house which includes education, children, vision, creativity etc.

But why does it destroy?

Imagine this. You feel powerful and in control in your own house. So you will try to overdo things in your home. When you go to a neighbour’s house, you won’t feel that much in control. you will leave the management of their home affairs on them. This concept works similarly when the Karak planet sits in its own house.

It expands the energy so much that the significations of those houses get overburdened..Imagine you are constantly behind your kids to do this, you cannot even let them sleep because they have assignments to do? That’s a Jupiter 5th house parent for you. In such cases, it’s better to have that planet weak so it won’t destroy its own karak house. Mercury retrograde, powerful in the 4th house won’t let the person study at all.

The 4th house is the karak of education and Mercury being the intellect will block the education if it’s too strong. You might ask how Venus being in the 7th house destroys the significations? Well, when Venus sits in the 7th house, the spouse is too perfect. They are too beautiful, too graceful. It’s too much to handle. They will show you the mirror. You will start seeing your flaws through them and this discord starts. You will feel you are never enough because your spouse already has everything themselves? They are already complete. They don’t need anything from you. This is a case of too much sugar becoming poisonous.

What about Sun 9th? Sun being in the 9th house makes fathers too controlling. Your father will try to control your life in any way they can and make you feel dumb or a lesser person. You will feel suffocated in the presence of your father because his ego will be too much to handle. For the outer world he can be a perfect human, but the shadow narcissistic side of his will come out in front of you. But this sun should be heavily afflicted, or extremely powerful to show such effects.

Jupiter in the 11th house of friends and elder siblings wreaks similar havoc as personally noticed. However Jupiter must have gained power to show strong results. When Jupiter is in 11th then the friendships become too overpowering. The elder siblings will try to control your life which will eventually lead to loss of relationship if not handled with care.

Similarly, imagine Mars in the 3rd house. Too much masculinity and courage can be toxic and that’s what Mars 3rd house brings here. If Mars is retrograde in the 3rd house then there’s generally no sibling. The native becomes uber competitive here and hence ruins relationships with their friends over petty issues.

Moon being the significator of 4th house is an exception to this rule as per Miss Barbara Pijan Lama. Because too much mothering cannot be negative. Can we ever get bored of our mothers? This placement does make native extremely sensitive and vulnerable to the outside world.

Last but not least, Saturn being the significator of 8th house and sitting in 8th house is generally meant to grant long life. But a long life doesn’t come with quality. These people generally suffer from chronic health issues which makes life burdensome.

As always every placement will have its own positives and negatives and we must be able to accept them both. Life with just positives will be an extremely boring life.
